Where
Culture
Meets
Curriculum
RatchedeMIX transforms classrooms through Hip Hop pedagogy, civic engagement, and culturally responsive education.
We don't just teach — we ignite. We don't just educate — we liberate.
More Than Music.
It's a Movement.
Our Mission
To empower students — especially those from historically marginalized communities — through culturally relevant education rooted in hip hop, civic engagement, and creative expression. We believe that every student deserves to see themselves reflected in their learning, and that the most powerful education happens when it is culturally grounded, community-centered, and unapologetically honest about the world we live in.
RatchedeMIX exists because too many classrooms still operate as if culture is something students should leave at the door. We flip that narrative. We bring the culture into the classroom and make it the foundation upon which rigorous, relevant, and transformative learning is built. Our mission is not just to close achievement gaps — it is to dismantle the systems that created those gaps in the first place, one classroom, one workshop, and one empowered student at a time.
Our Vision
A future where classrooms reflect the culture, brilliance, and lived experiences of every student — and where education feels liberating, relevant, and transformative. We envision schools where Hip Hop pedagogy is not a novelty but a norm, where civic engagement is woven into the fabric of daily learning, and where every young person understands the power of their own voice.
What Is RatchedeMIX?
RatchedeMIX is an educational experience that blends music, culture, identity, and academic excellence into a single, transformative force. We use hip hop as a framework to teach critical thinking, civic responsibility, literacy, science, and social awareness in ways that resonate deeply with today's students — meeting them exactly where they are and propelling them toward where they're destined to be.
This isn't about watering down academics or dressing up old pedagogy in new clothes. RatchedeMIX is a fundamentally different approach to education — one that recognizes the brilliance students already carry, the cultural capital they already possess, and the creative power that lives in every young person who has ever freestyled a verse, painted a wall, or spoken truth to power. We take what the mainstream overlooks and place it at the center of the learning experience, because culture is not a distraction. It is the curriculum.
From elementary classrooms to high school auditoriums, from professional development sessions with educators to district-wide curriculum redesigns, RatchedeMIX operates at every level of the K–12 ecosystem. Our programming is rooted in scholarly research on culturally responsive teaching, Hip Hop Based Education (HHBE), and critical pedagogy — but it is delivered with the energy, authenticity, and creative fire that only comes from living the culture we teach through.
